Craving something sweet around the campfire? These Campfire Cinnamon Roll-Ups are a delicious and fun dessert that’s easy to make outdoors. It’s a creative twist on traditional s’mores that will satisfy your sweet tooth and impress your fellow campers!
Ingredients (makes about 4 servings):
1 package of crescent roll dough (8 count)
1/4 cup butter, melted
1/4 cup sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
4 roasting sticks or skewers (if using wooden skewers, soak in water for 30 minutes before use)
Optional: 1/4 cup chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts work well)
Equipment:
Campfire
Small bowl for mixing cinnamon and sugar
Brush for butter (or use a ziplock bag with a corner snipped off)
Knife for spreading (if not using a brush)
Plate or paper towels for serving
Instructions:
Mix the sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
Open the package of crescent roll out dough
Brush each triangle with melted butter.
Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the buttered dough. If using nuts, sprinkle these on as well.
Roll up each piece of dough around the skewer stick.
Carefully wrap each roll-up around a roasting stick or skewer, making sure it’s secure.
Hold over the campfire, rotating slowly, for about 5-8 minutes or until the dough is golden brown and cooked through.
Carefully slide the roll-up off the stick onto a plate or paper towel.
Let cool for a minute or two before enjoying your gooey, cinnamon-y treat!
Tips:
If you’re backpacking or want to save space, you can mix the cinnamon and sugar at home and bring it in a small container or ziplock bag.
For extra indulgence, bring along some cream cheese frosting to drizzle over the warm roll-ups.
Be patient when roasting – cooking too close to the flames can burn the outside while leaving the inside doughy.
If you don’t have roasting sticks, you can also cook these in a cast-iron skillet over the fire. Just place the roll-ups in the skillet, cover with foil, and cook for about 10 minutes, turning once.
For a fruity twist, add some thinly sliced apples or a spoonful of fruit preserves before rolling up the dough.
